Rumors are expanding throughout the Star Wars universe since Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilms. Everyday new topics are a-buzz on this hot topic, seems fans on both sides of the fence are itching to know how this (slightly) unexpected acquisition pans out.
Personally, I'm rooting for a Disney Star Wars theme cruise ship... but on the comic book end, I'm uncertain regarding my feelings on the impending change on the horizon.
Dark Horse has been producing Star Wars since the release of "Dark Empire" in 1991 and interestingly enough, also re-published the early Marvel Star Wars comics (series run ending in 1986.)
Now, the rumor mill has it (and possibly confirmed) that Disney will be transferring rights for publication of Star Wars comics back to Marvel when Dark Horse's license expires in 2013. Which totally makes sense as Disney owns Marvel, but may not make as much sense to fans of the Dark Horse series... mainly because it brings up a wealth of important questions.
In the forefront - what happens to the artists and writers of the current Star Wars comics that fans have come to know (and love, appreciate, admire, etc.) throughout the sagas. And will the comic series continue or be quashed mid-run?
Inevitably there will be a lot to sort out. What are your thoughts on Marvel taking over the Star Wars comic book series?

On a "Goofy" note (or maybe not, because one never knows how these mashups may go...) fans have been coming up with some interesting Marvel versus Star Wars potentials... among them, my favorite of Dead Pool versus Han Solo:
(Sorry Han, you know I love you, but this is perhaps a match you may not win.)
And one of my favorites, based purely on symmetric character appeal is the Jango Fett versus Punisher scenario:
Interesting parallels...

I didn't realize that Disney was taking over Star Wars. It will be interesting to see what happens.
ReplyDeleteUltimately I think it is up to the fans if this is successful for Disney or not. If people are that much against it then they can boycott. It just depends if they can stand together for their true opinion or not. I'm sure Dark Horse probably saw this coming.
ReplyDeleteYou bring up some excellent points and I love the mashups! I'm looking forward to sharing this with my boys and will be watching to see how everything shakes out in the end. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI'm soo excited .. I can't wait to see what Disney will do.. I've heard about this a few weeks back and can't wait to see what happens ....
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to see what Disney will do. Even more so, my boys are interested in the outcome.
