...which is why we have family fun nights!
...where we battle on board games and consume lots of great grub. And what better time to assemble a bodacious Hulk-smashing, Thor-hammering, Cap-worthy night of goodness than in honor of the upcoming release of Marvel's Avengers on Blu-Ray and DVD. Absolutely prime time to break out the big guns of family fun night party-dom!
To beginning planning, I headed to the Walmart website Marvel Avengers page because I had the low-down that there was an Avengers Augmented Reality App that, when downloaded, triggers special Avengers activities on iPhone, iPad, or Android while shopping at Walmart. And yes- in-deedy, there is! (I also found downloadable masks to color, computer wallpaper backgrounds, and oodles of great info.)
I downloaded the app on the way to Walmart... (and yep, I'm more adept at downloads than I am at taking pictures of my phone- ignore my camera reflection snafus and concentrate more on this bam-tastic app...) which allows the user to play games, take pictures with Avenger characters, see three dimensional scenes, and take a quiz to determine which Avenger you are.
Sadly, I live in the boonies, so my Walmart is not quite up to speed on all the trigger points yet, but I still had an gloriously geek-skippy time trouncing through Walmart ogling all the Avenger goodies (more on that trip HERE.)

First, find some amazingly cool (and adorable!) Avengers-inspired decorations to :
Get some Thor-worthy grub:
Find activities everyone loves (we call this our Avengers Assemble Legos time!):
Create a fun, quick, inexpensive foray of fun with a backyard Avenger Olympics, complete with awards of awesomeness:
Hone your super hero skills and prove your super amazing powers with Avenger inspired games:
We played "Hawkeye Shot" with nerf bows testing range of accuracy and furthest flying arrows. "Helicarrier Spin" with spin flyers (see my Walmart shop for pics) to test flying abilities. "Captain American Shield Toss" with mini Frisbees to test well, shield tossing capabilities. And a range of other games like "Hulk Stomp" where we had the boys stomp in rage green monster style to demonstrate their Hulk-i-ness. The key is imagination and lots of giggles. The result is my boys are begging to play this again!
Next, give a patriotic salute that would make Cap proud:
In addition to working up a super appetite for family movie time:
We served up Hulk green punch (basically green juice) and slices of mighty Thor pizza (though that may be more Ninja Turtle, it's still really dang good.)
Have Hulk do the heavy lifting because you're a little worn out from Avenger Olympics:
Lastly, end on an educational, entertaining note with a stellar read:
The boys are reading Marvel's Custom Edition "The Avengers: Season One." This new graphic novel is a limited edition which is offered as a perk when you pre-order and only available at Walmart. (So, um, yeh, race to the Walmart website to grab that pup up!)

DeleteI love the "little super hero" cups - our store didn't not have those, I would have bought them all!
ReplyDeleteKeep an eye out, they might make it there soon. I find our Walmart is constantly adding cool products.
DeleteWhoa double negative! "Our store DID NOT have those" <-- my inner grammar teacher slapped my fingers on the keyboard to re-type that properly. ;)
ReplyDeleteLOL... we're relaxed here. No grammar police on CBM - as you can see, I like to make up words often - it's all good :)
DeleteOur Walmart did not have half the Avenger's products that yours did!
ReplyDeleteHopefully they will soon. With the release of the movie today, our Walmart was even more stocked, so the products are still coming- woot! :)
DeleteLove all your Avengers inspired games! Super cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks Terri! We had so much fun, we'll be playing them again this weekend.

ReplyDeleteI have heard of this very cool app from Walmart that allows those with an iPhone, iPad or Android device to have a blast in Walmart stores while searching for all the trigger points. It looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI love how much you did with the kids to make this almost a full day of Avengers themed fun activities. My 3 sons really love the Avengers and would love to have a whole day dedicated to it. They would want to watch the movie a few times during the day, too. LoL!
