Thinking Outside the Comic Book Jewelry Stratosphere

You can't quite put your finger on what makes Stratosphere Jewelry so compelling, it simply is. Stunning artwork crafted into minimalist eye-catching designs, each piece is unique, hand-crafted by jewelry artist, Kimberly Proctor-Kings.

Proctor-Kings says, "I have always been a huge comic book geek."

In fact, her favorite, as she puts it "the most kick-a of super heroines," is Wonder Woman.  This strong, feminine presence of character is prevalent in her jewelry work.

"One of the things I love about comics is the amazing artwork," says Proctor-King.  "I had an idea to show off some of my favorite artwork by making myself a necklace using a comic strip. I got so many complements from people that I decided to make a range of this jewelry."

All of her designs appear to tell a story, some with an air of sadness, others whimsy, all with a slight nod towards vintage.

Proctor-King loves rummaging through the sale bins at comic stores in the UK, where she is based.

"I've found many unusual comics this way which I then turn into jewelry," says Proctor-King.  "It kinda feels wrong taking the scissors to some of these books but I hope I'm showing off some of the artwork and making it live forever."
