I'd like to say we've seen every animated episode of every superhero we love and admire, but seriously folks, there are only so many hours in a day and I'm totally not into having a family full of bug-eyed couch tators during all of them.
So, every once in awhile, we miss out on some pretty cool stuff, which is why having the series made available on DVD is the bomb-diggity! Now, Marvel's Iron Man Armored Adventures is one cool cartoon series my superhero sons and I are ecstatic to find out is available on DVD.
Not only is is great for catching up with this series that we've missed when it aired on television, but it's a real treat to be able to pull the DVD out and watch it again when the mood strikes. And with Iron Man related comics, that mood strikes often in our household.
Iron Man Armored Adventures Season 2 Volume 3 (available January 22,) is the newest in the series containing six episodes (143 minutes) of young Tony Stark protecting his friends (and naturally, the world) from evil forces like Iron Monger, a rogue SHIELD Agent, Magneto, and even Stark's own time-traveling grandson (which is really weird for the teen Iron Man, but he's handles it quite well.)
I particularly enjoyed "The X-Factor" with the cross-over of mutant lore into the Iron Man universe. My sons were thrilled with "Iron Man 2009" where Hawkeye (another of their favorites) makes a grand guest appearance.
We had a great time through all the episodes pointing out which characters from the Avengers (movie) popped in from time to time and comparing notes on the changes in Iron Man's story line, particularly as he is a teen in the Iron Man Armored Adventure series. This served as a great intro for me to explain the variances between comic books, cartoon series, and live action films and a number of the reason behind them. (Chalk one for cool superhero lessons of the day!)
The action and dialogue of the Iron Man Armored Adventures is engaging and compelling for both young viewers and old. Also included on the DVD is a special feature of an original artwork gallery, which is a nice visual treat.
While my littlest guy still things Robert Downey Jr. is the best Iron Man ever (hard to argue,) he's still impressed enough with Iron Man Armored Adventures Season 2 Volume 3 to request that I obtain the rest of the series for us to catch up on the previous adventures. My oldest son and I whole-heartedly agree. This stand-alone episode edition is great on its own, but we are totally up for experiencing more of this entertaining series.

ReplyDeleteThis series did a fine job with the ancillary characters from the Marvel universe. Especially Doctor doom.
ReplyDeleteSeason two held up well. It was different but definitely worth checking out.
